🔒 Is SyncBase modifying data autonomously?
Short answer: no. SyncBase never modifies your Shopify or Airtable data on its own. Every data change performed by SyncBase is always a direct reaction to an action that already happened elsewhere.
SyncBase acts as a bridge between Shopify and Airtable, ensuring that updates are synced accurately, but it never initiates changes by itself.
How data changes actually happen
SyncBase always reacts to an external action
Every data modification synced by SyncBase comes from one of the following sources:
- A manual change made by a user in Shopify or Airtable
- A Shopify automation (for example, an order being created or updated)
- An Airtable automation or script modifying records
- An external app or third-party tool connected to Shopify or Airtable
SyncBase simply detects these changes and syncs them to the other side according to your configuration.
Why does Shopify or Airtable show “SyncBase” as the editor?
It’s related to the API token, not the origin of the change
When Shopify or Airtable displays SyncBase as the author of a modification, this is expected behavior.
- SyncBase uses an API token to communicate with Shopify and Airtable
- From a technical perspective, the platforms only see the token performing the update
- The real origin of the change is still the user or automation that triggered it initially
In other words, SyncBase is the messenger, not the decision-maker.
