# 🚫 Exclude specific data from your synchronization

Sometimes you may not want to sync every single product, order, or customer between Shopify and Airtable. With SyncBase, you can easily exclude individual records from synchronization by using the special **SyncIgnore** tag.

# How it works

* **Add the tag SyncIgnore**: Apply the tag `SyncIgnore` directly in Shopify to the data you want to exclude (for example: a product, an order, a customer, or a collection).
* **During base generation**: Any data object with the `SyncIgnore` tag will be ignored when your base is created. Your synced Airtable base will not include these records.
* **After base generation**: If you add the tag later, SyncBase will stop synchronizing updates **from Shopify to Airtable** for that record. However, if you update the record in Airtable, those changes will still sync to Shopify.

# Why use SyncIgnore?

Using `SyncIgnore` can be helpful in many situations:

* Reduce the number of records in your Airtable base.
* Limit unnecessary API calls.
* Exclude test products, draft orders, or internal customers.
* Keep your base focused only on the data you really need.

# How to add the SyncIgnore tag in Shopify

The process is the same for **products, orders, customers, and collections**: in Shopify, add the `SyncIgnore` tag, and save.

__Here’s an example with a product__:

1. In your Shopify admin, go to **Products**.
2. Select the product you want to exclude.
3. In the **Tags** field, type `SyncIgnore` and press **Enter**.
4. Click **Save**.

### Automating the process

__You don’t have to add or remove the tag manually every time__:

* With **Shopify Flow** (available in the Shopify admin), you can automatically add or remove the `SyncIgnore` tag based on rules you define (e.g., exclude draft products, or exclude orders from a specific sales channel).
* With **external apps** from the Shopify App Store, you can create more advanced workflows to manage tags at scale.
* With **SyncBase automations**, you can also design your own Airtable-based workflows to tag or untag records directly from Airtable.

# Good to know

* If you add the `SyncIgnore` tag **after** your base has been generated, the record will still appear in Airtable, but it will stop receiving updates from Shopify.
* Updates made directly in Airtable will continue to sync back to Shopify as usual.
