🔄 Can I change tabs primary field?

Yes, you can! The primary field in each Airtable tab created by SyncBase can be changed at any time, depending on your needs or preferences.

Change the primary field to fit your needs

All tabs created by SyncBase in your Airtable base (like Products, Variants, Orders, etc.) come with a default primary field. But you can change it to another field — especially if you prefer a more descriptive value like the product name, SKU, or handle.

This change won’t break the sync. SyncBase uses internal IDs, not the primary field, to link data with Shopify.

How to change the primary field in Airtable

Changing a primary field in Airtable is easy.

Here’s how to do it:

  1. Open your Airtable synced base.
  2. Go to the tab you want to edit (e.g., Products, Variants, etc.).
  3. Identify the column you'd like to set as the new primary field.
  4. Click the dropdown on that column’s header.
  5. Select “Customize field type”.
  6. Click “Use as primary field”.

Not all field types can be used as a primary field. Airtable only allows text-based fields or formula fields to be used as the primary column.

Good to know

  • SyncBase keeps working normally after the change.
  • This is a visual change only — it won’t impact the sync logic.
  • Use a formula field if you want to combine multiple values (e.g. Product Name - SKU).
